As 2021 draws to a close, it is another time to focus on reflections and new year resolutions, as well as ensuring my Medibank Extra insurance policy limits have been put to good use.

Thanks for the casual conversations and friendship I have had with my dental clinic, the manager has indulged me with a last-minute end-of-year appointment request with 3 hours of notice.

I selected a random episode in one of my favorite podcasts co-hosted by Naval Ravikant & Brett Hall, just trying to cancel the noise coming from my dentist's drilling noise, which I didn't finish listening to until after my pre-dinner walk.

Contrary to most of Naval's distinct 1-minute episodes, this one is over 45 minutes long. The gentlemen exchanged ideas on limitations of Bays theorem, probability of the existence of alien civilizations, nature of resources.

One interesting idea I've learned from these 45 minutes was that while the belief of alien civilizations other than us augmented by Elon Musk's lectures has gained popularity recently. Brett suggested that the fact we humans existed on this planet alone has been a combination of millions times millions of right mutation sequences over a very long period of time, in other words, it was a miracle in its own right. Therefore it is very unlikely there are other civilizations out there amongst the stars.

This blog was inspired by Brett's blog, and started with the purpose of congregating some of my own self-reflections, mostly reasonings of decisions I have made personally as well as on behalf of my businesses.

It might include the background/context such as the when who, and where; as well as the how and why.

I have received a renewal notification email on ryanyan.org which is a domain name I've registered when I left the NAB, which in fact I have been trying to check in on validity to date. Perfect timing for this all come together!

What a great way to end the year 2021.

QR codes set to turbocharge SME real time payments

QR codes set to turbocharge SME real time payments 08 October 2020 - By Collaborative Media & Publishing QR codes within Australia's real-time payment system Osko help to streamline the way small businesses accept payments, and the functionality is available now to those financial institutions that want to provide it to their customers. The innovation comes as the RBA considers the future of QR code-based payment technology, which dominates across Asian markets such as China. By way of contrast, QR codes have played a minor role in Australia given widespread adoption of cards and payment terminals. However, BPAY Group Product Analyst Pratik Venkatesh says there are many small businesses, such as tradies, that could benefit from the addition of QR codes to real-time payment service Osko.   For example, a plumber completes a job and would then show the client a QR code, which they scan on their phone. The code contains all the information to pre-populate the payment fields i...

How BPAY Group's open APIs are powering innovative payment solutions 19 November 2019 - By Collaborative Media & Publishing BPAY Group has launched a new Developer Portal to help organisations to access BPAY APIs and create solutions that support their business and their customers’ needs.   The portal, initially launched in October with four BPAY Payments APIs, and information about Sypht APIs, creates a one stop shop for developers, product managers and other innovators to build new payment services. NoahPay Director and Co-founder Ryan Yan said users can open Billax in WeChat, take a photo of their bill to automatically pre-populate the payment page with BPAY biller code, reference number and amount, and then confirm payment u...

Hometown of Doraemon

15th March 2023 Today, I came to Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, where Doraemon was born. Japanese cartoonist Fujiko F. Fujio first began serializing the manga version of "Doraemon" here in 1969, and spent the last few decades of his life in the process. Fifty-four years later, the dream of Doraemon is still emerging, affecting generations of children. Thanks to Doraemon and his creators for the joy they brought to my childhood and for deepening my understanding of unconditional love.
